Prosecutors dispatched to the special investigation team for Kim Gun-hee have requested to return to their original positions, expressing their opposition to the dismantling of the prosecution office, the loss of prosecutors’ direct investigation function, and the general prohibition of maintaining prosecutions by investigative prosecutors.
In a statement, the dispatched prosecutors expressed confusion over whether it is appropriate to continue handling special investigation tasks that combine direct investigation, indictment, and prosecution, given the recent contradictory situations.
They also urged Special Prosecutor Min Joong-gi to openly express his opinion through the media about the role of prosecutors in investigating serious crimes and the necessity of direct investigations by prosecutors, as confirmed during the special investigation process.
Moreover, they requested to be returned after swiftly concluding the current cases so that they can rejoin frontline efforts to address the rapidly increasing number of unresolved public cases.
