Police: “Illegal Activities at Rally… Investigation Initiated into KCTU Leadership”

On the morning of the 11th, during a routine press briefing, it was reported that the police are considering submitting arrest warrants for the union members detained during the large-scale rally organized by the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions (KCTU) over the past weekend. The police are also conducting a pre-investigation into the KCTU executive team for potential prior planning of illegal activities.

A police official stated, “We are reviewing arrest warrants for those detained at the weekend rally, and we plan to apply for warrants for some of them.” He added, “Most of the individuals in question were directly violent toward police officers or breached the police line resulting in physical altercations with officers.”

On November 9th, a clash occurred between protesters and police at a large rally organized by KCTU in front of Seoul City Hall. During this event, 11 individuals were arrested for assaulting police officers, among other charges. These 11 individuals are currently held at various police stations: Namdaemun (3), Suseo (3), Gangdong (2), Bangbae (2), and Nowon (1).

The police plan to expand their investigation to include the KCTU organizers. They have begun a pre-investigation to hold the KCTU executive team accountable as the rally organizers. The police stated, “It appears that illegal activities were pre-planned,” and emphasized, “We will actively investigate the executive team.”

Currently, the police are conducting a pre-investigation into seven members of the KCTU executive team, including the chairman. They plan to summon these individuals for questioning.
