“Not only educational authorities but also kindergartens, elementary, middle, and high schools will have access to China’s artificial intelligence (AI) Deepseek blocked.”
The Ministry of Education announced on the 6th that “Access to Deepseek has been decided to be blocked until its safety, including personal information protection, is verified by the headquarters. Schools at all levels and institutions under the Ministry of Education have been instructed to block access to Deepseek.” This includes kindergartens, elementary, middle, and high schools.
However, universities and graduate schools are allowed to use it for academic research and education purposes with attention to security.
On the 6th, various government departments also went on to block access to China’s artificial intelligence (AI) Deepseek.
Earlier that day, various government departments, including the Ministry of Science and ICT, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Ministry of SMEs and Startups, the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, the Ministry of Environment, the Ministry of Health and Welfare, the Ministry of Employment and Labor, the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family, and the National Police Agency declared their intentions to either fully block access to Deepseek or to plan to do so.
Following the lead of central government departments, public institutions are also taking similar actions, and there is an emerging trend in the financial sector and private companies to impose bans on Deepseek.
Experts point out that Deepseek collects certain information that other AIs do not, and particularly, it lacks a feature for users to refuse the collection of their data.
