(Daegu=News1) Reporter Nam Seung-ryeol = It has been revealed that, over the past three years, nearly 500 teachers nationwide have been caught driving under the influence of alcohol. In Daegu, there were 21 cases, and in Gyeongbuk, there were 32.

According to the audit data submitted to the National Assembly’s Education Committee by Kang Kyung-sook, a member of the National Innovation Party (proportional representation), from the 17 city and provincial education offices, including the Daegu Office of Education, 478 teachers have been disciplined for drunk driving over the past three years, with 76.2% of them receiving heavy disciplinary actions.

By region, Gyeonggi had the highest number with 99 teachers, followed by Jeonnam with 46, Chungnam with 43, and Seoul with 37. In Daegu, 21 teachers were punished, and in Gyeongbuk, 32.

The Sejong and Jeonbuk Offices of Education had a 100% rate of heavy disciplinary actions, while Gyeonggi was at 99% and Gyeongbuk at 78.1%, although Daegu was relatively lower at 52.4%.

Rep. Kang stated, “It is a severe violation not only of the teachers’ duty to maintain dignity due to drunk driving but also of their responsibility to instill a proper sense of lawfulness. Drunk driving must be eradicated in the teaching community.”
