[Herald Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Park Jung-gyu] Gyeonggi Province will recruit 2,897 new public officials for 2025.

The province announced on its website (gg.go.kr) on the 3rd that it will hold the 2025 ‘1st and 2nd Public Competitive Recruitment Exams (Grades 7, 8, 9)’ and ‘1st, 2nd, and 3rd Selective Competitive Recruitment Exams (Research/Guidance Officers, Grades 7, 8, 9)’.

The number of recruits includes the province (including the council) and 31 cities and counties (including councils). Through the public competitive recruitment exam, a total of 2,628 personnel across 24 job categories will be recruited, including 31 for Grade 7 and 2,597 for Grades 8 and 9. Through the selective competitive recruitment exam, 269 individuals across 19 job categories will be selected, including 64 researchers/guidance officers, 39 for Grade 7, 9 for Grade 8, and 157 for Grade 9.

Among these, to expand opportunities for social minorities and diversify organizational structures, 295 people with disabilities, 90 from low-income backgrounds, and 55 from technical high schools will be recruited through separate selection.

One notable change from this year is the shift in examination focus for the Korean and English subjects in the Grade 8 and 9 public competitive exams. The focus is moving from rote memorization to job suitability, and the written test duration will increase from 100 minutes to 110 minutes.

Additionally, tree doctor qualifications have been added to the list of bonus qualifications for new appointments in the forestry job category, and applicants with more than two minor children will have their application fees waived.

In some cities and counties like Yangju, Pocheon, and Yangpyeong, the residency requirement restrictions for general civil engineering and architecture categories in public competitive exams have been relaxed, so candidates preparing for these categories should check accordingly.

Meanwhile, the same important notice remains that one cannot apply to multiple local public official recruitment exams held on the same date, and an applicant can apply to only one institution per exam.

Lee Jeong-hwa, the head of Gyeonggi Province’s HR department, advised, “Since there are changes like the shift in the question format for the Korean and English subjects and the relaxation of residency requirements for certain job categories, applicants should carefully review the announcements and detailed guidelines.”
