Gwangju Mayor Kang Gi-jung has announced that he will personally attend singer Lee Seung-hwan’s concert, which is set to take place in Gwangju this May.

On the 6th, Mayor Kang posted on Facebook, stating, “The ‘Lee Seung-hwan Concert’ will be held in Gwangju on May 3.”

He continued, “The concert that couldn’t be held in Gumi last winter can now happen in Gwangju. It’s a visit that strengthens Gwangju,” expressing his excitement.

Mayor Kang also added, “I will definitely buy a ticket and attend,” announcing his intention to watch the concert in person.

Initially, Lee Seung-hwan planned to hold a concert at the Gumi City Cultural Arts Center on December 25 last year. However, the event was canceled when Gumi City revoked the venue rental, citing reasons such as public safety concerns and potential political agitation.

Gumi City had demanded that Lee Seung-hwan submit a safety personnel plan and sign a pledge not to engage in political agitation or make potentially misleading statements. However, Lee Seung-hwan’s team refused, leading to the cancellation.

Upon hearing this, Mayor Kang proposed holding the concert in Gwangju, to which Lee Seung-hwan responded positively, saying he looks forward to the performance at the “holy site of democracy, Gwangju.”

Lee Seung-hwan’s concert in Gwangju will take place at the Kim Dae-jung Convention Center’s multipurpose hall, accommodating 3,000 seats.
