A fire that broke out at a waste storage warehouse in Doi-dong, Gwangyang City, Jeonnam, has been continuing for three days.

According to the Gwangyang Fire Department on the 15th, a report was received about an unknown fire that started in the warehouse at around 8:38 a.m. on the 13th. The fire authorities issued the first level response orders consecutively at 12:10 p.m. and 1:27 p.m. on the same day, mobilizing manpower and equipment from the jurisdiction to undertake firefighting efforts.

The warehouse contained about 4,000 steel and aluminum ton bags weighing 750 kg, of which about 200 were burned. It is known that aluminum can exacerbate the fire when it comes into contact with water, presenting significant challenges in extinguishing the fire.

The fire department has removed about 2,000 bags to the outside and is using excavators to move the remaining 800 bags to prevent the spread of damage. Efforts are being concentrated on the firefighting operation by spraying expanded vermiculite to block heat and oxygen.
