Doctor prescribed propofol to Yoo Ah-in without medical records… Fined 40 million won

The court stated, “Using psychotropic drugs as a means of making money is not a good crime,” and “However, considering the sincere remorse and lack of criminal record, the sentencing of imprisonment is somewhat harsh.” Actor Yoo Ah-in (37, real name Um Hong-sik) appeared at the 5th trial in Seoul Central District Court in Seocho-gu, Seoul, on charges of habitual drug use. The doctor who administered propofol, a psychotropic drug, to Yoo Ah-in without recording it in his medical records was fined.

According to the legal community on the 22nd, Judge Kim Taek-hyung of the 9th Criminal Division of the Seoul Central District Court sentenced Doctor A, who was indicted without detention for violating the Narcotics Control Act (psychotropic drugs), to a fine of 40 million won.

The court criticized Doctor A, stating that he did not write detailed information or medical records while administering high doses of propofol, and wrote false prescriptions without directly examining patients, using psychotropic drugs as a means of making money.

The prosecution had indicted six doctors without detention in January for prescribing propofol and other drugs to Yoo Ah-in without reporting it to the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety. With Doctor A receiving a fine, all six doctors have completed their first trials. Each of them received fines and suspended prison sentences.
