“Difficult for Me Too”… Daughter-in-Law Who Tied Up Hands of Mother-in-Law with Dementia Receives Fine

’40-year-old daughter-in-law who tied the hands of her 80-year-old mother-in-law with dementia receives a fine.’

On the 12th, Judge Sung In-hye of the Incheon District Court’s 8th Criminal Division announced that she sentenced A (female, 48), who was charged with violating the Elderly Welfare Act, to a fine of 6 million KRW.

A was put on trial for tying the wrists of her mother-in-law, B (85), with tape at their home in Bupyeong-gu, Incheon, on May 7th of last year.

A was investigated for yelling “Stop it, I’m struggling too” in anger because B, who had dementia, kept touching her face.

It was found that A had been taking care of B for about two years.

Judge Sung stated that “the defendant’s actions of restraining an elderly victim with dementia were not of good character,” but took into consideration her remorse and the seemingly impulsive nature of her actions during sentencing.
