Daejeon City Selects 9 Representative Festivals for 2025…Discovering Distinctive Content and Enhancing Festival Competitiveness
On the 13th, Daejeon City selected nine “2025 City Representative Festivals” through a review by the Festival Promotion Committee as part of its effort to become a leading tourism city.
The selection of these representative festivals is conducted by combining last year’s field evaluation results and this year’s project plan expert reviews from festivals proposed by the city headquarters, autonomous districts, and affiliated organizations.
The festivals selected this year include: ▷ Daejeon Midnight Festival ▷ Daejeon Science Festival ▷ Daejeon Bread Festival (Daejeon Tourism Organization) ▷ Daejeon Dong-gu Dongrak Festival (Dong-gu) ▷ Daejeon Hyo Culture Roots Festival (Jung-gu) ▷ Daejeon Seo-gu Art Festival (Seo-gu) ▷ Yuseong Four Seasons Festival (Yuseong-gu) ▷ Yuseong Chrysanthemum Festival (Yuseong-gu) ▷ Daedeok Water Light Festival (Daedeok-gu).
Each autonomous district with a selected representative festival will receive city funding of 130 million won to promote festival activation.
Previously, festivals hosted by districts faced challenges in discovering content and securing festival competitiveness due to difficult financial conditions. In response, the city plans to select representative festivals for each district and support them financially to discover differentiated content and enhance operational stability.
This year, by providing equal support across districts, the city aims to prevent unnecessary hierarchy among district festivals and expand cultural and artistic experiences for citizens by hosting a variety of events across the entire city.
Noh Gi-su, Director of Culture, Arts, and Tourism at Daejeon City, stated, “We will create regional festivals that provide citizens with new and exciting entertainment, fostering pride among Daejeon citizens. We will spare no support to ensure that the Daejeon Midnight Festival becomes a representative summer festival that revitalizes the old downtown and elevates the city’s brand value, thereby invigorating the local economy.”
