The forest fire on Mt. Hamji in Buk-gu, Daegu, reignited after six days, and authorities are currently working to put it out, according to Kim Min-jung of Edaily.

The photo taken by Yonhap News shows a helicopter dropping water on the forest fire site in Buk-gu, Daegu, on the morning of the 29th, the second day after the large-scale forest fire broke out.

According to the Daegu Fire and Safety Headquarters, the forest fire partially reignited at around 7:31 PM the previous day on Mt. Hamji in Buk-gu, Daegu.

The point of reignition is about 30 meters in length and formed a fire line on the ridge of Hamji Mountain in Guaam-dong, Buk-gu facing towards Baekryeonsa Temple.

Residents in the area reported seeing flames in the vicinity of Mt. Hamji around 8:20 PM, leading to 78 wildfire reports being made to the fire authorities.

Buk-gu District Office, firefighting, and forest authorities deployed over 100 personnel overnight to establish a defense line around the areas with rekindled fires to prevent further spreading. At sunrise, they began deploying 10 helicopters successively to extinguish the fire.

An official from the Buk-gu District Office stated, “The main fire has been put out, but embers are being rekindled by the wind. However, there is no concern of the fire spreading or causing damage to private residences.”

Previously, a forest fire broke out on Mt. Hamji at around 2 PM on the 28th, burning approximately 260 hectares of forest, and the main fire was controlled after 23 hours.

The special judicial police from the Buk-gu Parks and Greenery Division have decided to request an investigation from the police to swiftly apprehend the perpetrator of the fire.
