The political fate of President Yoon Suk-yeol will be decided today (the 4th) by the Constitutional Court.
The court will announce its decision on President Yoon’s impeachment trial in the main courtroom at 11 a.m. today.
The ruling will be broadcast live nationwide on TV, including on SBS News Special Report.
Today’s ruling comes 111 days after President Yoon was impeached on December 14 last year, and 38 days since the conclusion of arguments and the commencement of deliberations among the justices on February 25.
If the Constitutional Court upholds the National Assembly’s impeachment motion, President Yoon will be removed from office. If it is dismissed or rejected, he will return to his duties.
A decision to remove him requires the consent of six out of eight constitutional justices.
The effect of the impeachment ruling takes place immediately at the time when the acting Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court, Moon Hyung-bae, reads the court’s official decision, either upholding, rejecting, or dismissing the motion.
