Former National Assembly vice speaker Jeong Woo-taek, who was accused of receiving money envelopes from local self-employed individuals along with solicitations, had his arrest warrant rejected.
The Cheongju District Court stated that at this stage there was insufficient necessity to detain former lawmaker Jeong, as the allegations lacked sufficient evidence due to conflicting statements and inconsistencies in some evidence.
Jeong, who operated a cafe in Sangdang-gu, Cheongju City, North Chungcheong Province as a local district member, was under police investigation on suspicion of receiving money from Mr. Oh, asking for relaxation of water source protection area regulations.
