“A man in his 30s who was indicted on charges of causing a commotion while brandishing a weapon and confronting police in a residential area of Eunpyeong-gu, Seoul last year, has been given a suspended prison sentence in the second trial as well.”

“The Seoul Western District Court’s Criminal Appeal Division 2-1, led by Judges Lee Ju-hyun, Lee Hyun-woo, and Lim Gi-hwan, sentenced Mr. Jeong (38), who was on trial for obstructing official duties with a weapon, to eight months in prison with a two-year suspension, the same sentence as the first trial.”

“The court said, ‘It is difficult to find any new circumstances to change the sentencing of the original trial and the sentence does not appear to be beyond a reasonable range,’ and dismissed the prosecution’s appeal.”

“Mr. Jeong was on trial for allegedly threatening and confronting police officers who responded to a 112 emergency call while he was intoxicated and causing a disturbance with a weapon in Galhyeon-dong, Eunpyeong-gu on August 26 last year. At the time, police tried to talk him into putting down the weapon when he threatened self-harm, and finally deployed a SWAT team to apprehend him after 2 hours and 40 minutes.”
