In Gwangju, there have been repeated cases of romance scams where individuals approach others under the guise of romantic interest and then steal money. The Gwangju Police Agency reported that this year there have been 31 cases of romance scams conducted through social networking services, resulting in damages amounting to 1.4 billion won. The police have warned that the methods used in these crimes are evolving from asking for living expenses to encouraging investments in virtual assets, urging people to be especially cautious.
