According to reports, Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, stated that a temporary shutdown of X, the social media platform he owns, was caused by a cyberattack originating from Ukraine. In an appearance on Fox Business, Musk said he was not entirely sure what had transpired but noted that there was a significant cyberattack aimed at disabling the X system, originating from Ukrainian IP addresses.
Prior to his TV appearance, Musk also mentioned on X that the platform was experiencing a major cyberattack, highlighting the substantial resources involved in the attack. He speculated that it might involve a large organized group or possibly a nation-state and mentioned that they are currently tracking it.
Bloomberg reported that the disruption affected the entire X site, influencing data pipelines provided to developers. It was noted that in countries like the USA, UK, France, and India, new posts failed to load at least three times over the course of the day, with each service interruption lasting several minutes.
Down Detector, a monitoring website, reported that during the outage, over 40,000 users in the USA reported issues, while more than 70,000 users in Japan also expressed dissatisfaction, according to TASS news agency.
