President Donald Trump has raised concerns, labeling issues such as the malfunctioning of the escalator and teleprompter, as well as the disruption of the speech audio during his UN General Assembly speech, as “sabotage” by the UN and demanded an investigation.
On the 24th (local time), President Trump mentioned on Truth Social, “What happened at the UN yesterday was really embarrassing. There were not one or two, but three very wicked incidents,” referring to the events during his visit to the UN headquarters in New York and his General Assembly speech the previous day. He noted that the escalator he took to access the assembly hall suddenly stopped, nearly injuring him and First Lady Melania, stating, “This was clearly sabotage.” He referenced a report from the previous day by a British media outlet about a joke by UN staff about turning off the escalator, saying, “Those who did this must be arrested.”
He also discussed the teleprompter malfunction at the start of his speech, saying, “It was completely dark. I immediately thought, ‘Wow, after the first escalator incident, now a teleprompter failure. What kind of place is this?’” Furthermore, he mentioned, “Thirdly, after the speech, I was told the audio cut off completely,” noting that after his speech, Melania told him, “I couldn’t hear a word.”
President Trump remarked, “This is no coincidence. It’s a triple sabotage at the UN,” and stated, “They should be ashamed of themselves. I will send a copy of this letter to the UN Secretary-General, demanding an immediate investigation. There is a clear reason why the UN hasn’t performed according to its purpose.”
