UN Secretary-General António Guterres has stated that he “strongly condemns North Korea’s long-range ballistic missile launch” in relation to North Korea’s intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) launch.

On the 31st, through UN Spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric, Guterres issued a statement saying, “North Korea’s continued missile launches using ballistic missile technology clearly violate the relevant Security Council resolutions.”

He reiterated calls for easing tensions, the full implementation of related Security Council resolutions, the creation of a favorable environment for dialogue, and the resumption of talks, saying, “We remain concerned about the situation on the Korean Peninsula.”

Guterres stressed, “Diplomatic engagement remains the only way to achieve the goal of sustainable peace and complete, verifiable denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.”

North Korea launched one ICBM in a high-angle trajectory towards the East Sea from around Pyongyang at 7:10 AM local time yesterday.
