Trump’s directive leads to furlough of about 1,000 Voice of America employees, disrupting broadcasts.

“Voice of America (VOA) Faces Crisis Due to Trump’s Directive to Downsize Federal Government Organization,” reads the news headline.

“The Voice of America (VOA) in Washington, D.C., is facing a critical moment due to President Trump’s directive to significantly reduce the size of federal government organizations,” according to a report.

“Michael Abramowitz, the director of VOA, announced that he, along with 1,300 employees, including reporters and producers, has been put on leave,” the report states.

“This measure is based on President Trump’s executive order to minimize the U.S. Agency for Global Media organization, leaving only the legally required minimum staff,” the report added.

“The U.S. Agency for Global Media is an independent government agency that oversees VOA and six other media outlets and organizations,” the article explains.

“On VOA’s Korean website, a notice has been posted stating that ‘Due to station circumstances, updates to the Korean service broadcast, web, and social media are not being conducted as usual,'” the report says.

“VOA was established in 1942 to counter Nazi propaganda and provides news in 48 languages,” the article concludes.
