Trump: “Reciprocal tariffs to take effect on April 2, may increase further”

Donald Trump, the President of the United States, announced that as previously indicated, reciprocal tariffs will be imposed starting from the 2nd of next month and mentioned that the tariffs could increase further thereafter.

In an interview with Fox News on the 9th, Trump stated that to avoid tariffs, manufacturing should take place within the United States.

Regarding the imposition of a 25% tariff on Canada and Mexico and the subsequent one-month waiver for automobile companies, he mentioned that it was intended to assist U.S. automobile manufacturers until April 2nd, but there will be no further waivers.

He also explained that the one-month deferral of tariffs on products subject to the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) was somewhat intended to assist Mexico and Canada.

When asked about the potential for changes following the reciprocal tariffs on April 2nd, Trump responded that some tariffs might increase depending on the situation and that he does not expect them to decrease.

Addressing concerns about the stock market decline due to tariff measures, he emphasized that the decline was not significant and stressed the importance of doing the right thing to build a strong nation.

In response to a question about whether he anticipates a recession this year, President Trump said he dislikes predicting such things and added that bringing prosperity back to the U.S. takes a little time.
