Trump Orders U.S. Withdrawal from ‘UN Human Rights Council and Palestinian Relief Organization’

President Trump has ordered the government to withdraw from the United Nations Human Rights Council and the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA).

On the 4th local time, President Trump signed an executive order with such content at the White House, according to the White House press pool. The executive order directs the United States to withdraw from various United Nations bodies, including the Human Rights Council, and calls for a comprehensive review of U.S. budget support for international organizations, as reported by AFP.

The order also mandates the U.S. to withdraw from the Palestinian refugee relief organization and calls for a review of its participation in UNESCO.

A White House official commented on UNESCO, describing it as “showing an anti-American bias,” and stated that “it is profoundly unfair to the U.S. that the budget contributions to the UN vary greatly by country.”

While signing the executive order, President Trump remarked, “I have always felt that the UN has tremendous potential, yet currently, it is not realizing that potential” and added, “Frankly, it is not being run properly.”

Earlier, on January 20th, his inauguration day, President Trump had also signed an executive order to withdraw the U.S. from the Paris Climate Agreement and notified the World Health Organization (WHO) of its withdrawal.
