The UN Security Council is set to discuss North Korea’s recent IRBM launch today, following a request from South Korea and others.

The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) is set to hold a meeting on the 8th, local time, to discuss the recent issue of North Korea’s intermediate-range ballistic missile (IRBM) launch.

According to the UN headquarters, the Security Council will convene a briefing session on the 8th at the UN headquarters, with the agenda focusing on North Korea’s non-proliferation issue, and will address the ballistic missile launch problem.

This meeting was requested by six UNSC member countries, including South Korea, the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Slovenia, and Denmark.

UN Secretary-General António Guterres has repeatedly emphasized that North Korea’s ongoing missile launches using ballistic missile technology clearly violate relevant Security Council resolutions.

According to the Joint Chiefs of Staff, North Korea launched one IRBM towards the East Sea from the vicinity of Pyongyang around noon on the 6th.

North Korea claimed that this missile was a ‘new hypersonic intermediate-range ballistic missile’ and that the test launch was successful, but the Joint Chiefs of Staff leaned toward the possibility of deception.
