The European Parliament urged South Korea to provide military support to Ukraine on the 28th (local time).
In a war-related resolution adopted during a plenary session in Strasbourg, France, the European Parliament called on the EU and its member states to “encourage South Korea to reconsider its stance on military support for Ukraine to provide substantial military resources for Ukraine’s defense operations.”
Additionally, it stated that “through strengthened cooperation with the International Criminal Court (ICC) and other judicial bodies, it is necessary to hold accountable Russia and their allies, including North Korea, for war crimes and violations of international law,” and urged the EU and international partners to intensify efforts to hold all perpetrators accountable.
This is the first time the EU has mentioned the legal responsibility of North Korean troop deployment in an official document.
Furthermore, the EU Parliament urged member states to strengthen sanctions against Iran, Belarus, and North Korea for their military support of Russia.
Regarding China, it warned, “Cease all military and dual-use support to Russia,” and cautioned that “failure to change course could severely impact EU-China bilateral relations.”
It also added, “China could use its significant influence on North Korea and Russia to help ease tensions.”
