Iran’s Foreign Minister to Hold Emergency Meeting with Russian President Putin

“Iran, which had its nuclear facilities bombed by the United States, has decided to hold an emergency meeting with its ally, Russia.

In Istanbul, Turkey, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi announced that he would be urgently dispatched to Moscow on the 23rd local time to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

It seems that Minister Araghchi is seeking solutions with friendly nations Turkey and Russia after the U.S. launched a military intervention amid Israel’s airstrikes on Iran, now on its tenth day.

On the same day, the Russian Foreign Ministry issued a statement criticizing the attack, saying, ‘Any decision to attack the territory of a sovereign nation with missiles and bombs, regardless of the justification, is a clear violation of international law, the UN Charter, and UN Security Council resolutions.’

They added that ‘a dangerous escalation of tensions has already begun, which is creating a situation that could further threaten regional and global security.’

The Russian Foreign Ministry also called for an ‘immediate halt to the attacks and an effort to return the situation to a political and diplomatic solution.’

Additionally, they expressed that the UN Security Council should respond to the incident and that they expect a clear stance from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), as the airstrikes have dealt a severe blow to the nuclear non-proliferation regime.

Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of Russia’s Security Council, criticized U.S. President Donald Trump, who posed as a peace mediator, accusing him of dragging the U.S. into another war.

Medvedev, a close associate of Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chairman of the United Russia Party, mocked on Telegram, saying, ‘Trump, who appeared as a pacifist, has now started a new war for the U.S. If this is a success, Trump will not receive the Nobel Peace Prize.’

Leonid Slutsky, Chairman of the Russian State Duma’s Foreign Affairs Committee, criticized that ‘the airstrike had no military necessity for the U.S. and can’t be justified under international law.’

He warned, saying, ‘This escalation of tensions risks extending beyond the Middle East, and Washington is likely aware that Iranian retaliation is inevitable,’ adding that ‘all these events are elevating the vicious cycle of conflict to a new level, raising the risk of World War III.’
