Amid escalating tensions triggered by terrorism, India launched a missile attack targeting Pakistan in the early morning of the 7th, as reported by AP and Reuters. Pakistan stated that at least eight people, including children, were killed by the Indian missile attack. This is the first armed conflict between nuclear-capable India and Pakistan in six years since 2019.

The Indian government announced through a statement that its military had launched “Sindur Operation,” attacking nine locations in Pakistan and the Pakistani-occupied regions of Jammu and Kashmir. India stated that it targeted military facilities used by armed terrorist forces.

The Indian Ministry of Defense stated in the statement, “We attacked locations where terrorists were plotting attacks against India.” The Ministry added, “Our operation was meticulously planned and targeted, and there is no intent to escalate. We did not attack any facilities of the regular Pakistani army.” Furthermore, the Indian Ministry of Defense asserted, “India has already shown considerable restraint in selecting and carrying out the missile attack targets.”

In response, the Pakistani government stated, “We will retaliate against India at a time and place of our choosing.” Local media reported that Pakistan launched missile attacks on Indian targets as a measure of retaliation.

A spokesperson for the Pakistani military told Reuters, “We shot down three Rafale jets, one Su-30, and one MiG-29 operated by India.” He stated, “Pakistani fighter jets have not been shot down, and skirmishes are occurring along the Line of Control (LoC), the de facto border between the two countries.”

The tension between India and Pakistan had been simmering since a shooting terror attack on April 22 near Pahalgam, a popular tourist destination in Indian-administered Kashmir, which resulted in 26 deaths and 17 injuries. India blamed the Pakistani government for the attack, while Pakistan denied involvement.

India has imposed sanctions by canceling visas for Pakistanis and banning the import of goods, ship arrivals, and postal exchanges with Pakistan. In response, Pakistan prohibited Indian aircraft from entering its airspace and canceled visas for Indians.

Skirmishes have continued for ten consecutive days along the de facto border, the Line of Control, until the previous day. Notably, India blocked the water flow of a tributary of the Indus River flowing into Pakistan the previous day, and Pakistan warned that it would treat the act as a declaration of war, even mentioning the possibility of a nuclear attack.
