Tens of thousands of protesters poured onto the streets, demanding an immediate ceasefire for the release of the hostages from the government.

When 6 Israeli hostages taken by the Palestinian militant group Hamas were found dead, the protesters took to the streets.

Hamas threatened further hostage killings by releasing videos of the hostages alive.

In a statement, they warned that if Netanyahu does not negotiate and instead approaches the detention facility with military pressure, the hostages will be trapped inside coffins and returned to their families.

The protesters criticized Netanyahu’s lukewarm response to the ceasefire.

“Because the government did not make a decision, 6 people held by Hamas lost their lives, so we eventually took to the streets.”

The Histadrut, the largest labor union in Israel, also went on a general strike to pressure for negotiations.

The airport union stopped airport operations, and bus companies joined the strike, causing disruptions in public transportation.

However, the court ordered a halt to the general strike, stating it was politically motivated.

US President Joe Biden criticized Prime Minister Netanyahu for not putting in enough effort in negotiating a ceasefire and the release of hostages.

“Do you think Prime Minister Netanyahu should take more action? Do you think he is taking enough action? No.”

President Biden also stated that they are “close” to a final hostage negotiation proposal.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Netanyahu reaffirmed his willingness to deploy troops to the buffer zone ‘Philadelphia Corridor’ on the Gaza-Egypt border, which is a key point of the ceasefire negotiations, and he did not yield to the large-scale protests.
