Earlier on that day, the Israeli military announced that they had carried out an airstrike on the southern Lebanese port city of Tyre, targeting and eliminating senior Hezbollah commander Mohamad Nasser. Hezbollah had been involved in ongoing armed clashes with Israel in retaliation for Hamas’ preemptive attack in October last year that triggered the Gaza conflict. Israel responded by launching retaliatory attacks on Hezbollah facilities throughout Lebanon using fighter jets and other means.
On the 12th of last month, Israel targeted and eliminated senior Hezbollah commander Talleb Abdullah through a pinpoint airstrike. In retaliation, Hezbollah fired around 170 rockets at Israel. Both sides have been mentioning the possibility of an all-out war, issuing threats to each other.
