“Greenland Map Covered with Stars and Stripes ‘Soon’… Denmark Protests”

The news of the U.S. airstrike on Venezuela and the arrest of President Nicolás Maduro has caused tension in Greenland, which is a Danish territory. President Donald Trump had previously expressed territorial ambitions for Greenland, and right after Maduro’s arrest, his core supporters mentioned Greenland again.

On the 4th (local time), according to the British daily newspaper The Guardian, after the U.S. launched a military operation against Venezuela, Katie Miller, a far-right U.S. podcaster, posted an image of Greenland covered with the American flag on “X” with the word “SOON.”

Miller is the wife of Stephen Miller, a close aide to President Trump and White House Deputy Chief of Staff, and her post has once again raised concerns about America annexing Greenland.

Jesper Møller, the Danish ambassador to the U.S., shared Miller’s post on his “X” account, stating, “We must continue to cooperate as close allies.”

He also emphasized that “the security of the United States is also the security of Greenland and Denmark” and that “Denmark and the United States are collaborating to ensure security in the Arctic region.”

Furthermore, Ambassador Møller mentioned that Denmark plans to increase its defense budget to $13.7 billion (about 19.8 trillion won), saying, “This budget can be used in the Arctic and North Atlantic because we take our joint security seriously.” He added, “We also expect full respect for the territorial integrity of the Kingdom of Denmark.”

Meanwhile, Jeff Landry, the governor of Louisiana, who was appointed as the special envoy to Greenland last month, welcomed President Trump’s ouster of President Maduro.

Governor Landry wrote on “X” about having witnessed the devastating impact of illegal drugs on American homes during his time as a deputy sheriff and attorney general, expressing his satisfaction to see a president finally taking substantial actions in the war on drugs amid over 100,000 opioid-related deaths occurring annually.

Earlier, Governor Landry had expressed gratitude to President Trump for the honor of serving in order to make Greenland a part of the United States. In response, Denmark expressed discomfort, summoning the U.S. ambassador in Denmark to lodge a protest.
