“Duterte, Former President of the Philippines, Arrested for ‘War on Drugs'”

**International Criminal Court Executes Arrest Warrant
Thousands Executed Allegedly for Crackdown Reasons**

The former Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte, who led a “war on drugs” using extrajudicial methods such as summary executions of alleged drug offenders, has been arrested.

On the 11th (local time), the Philippine government announced that they had executed an arrest warrant issued by the International Criminal Court (ICC) for former President Duterte, who served from 2016 to 2022.

Duterte was arrested by police upon returning from a visit to Hong Kong, at Manila’s Ninoy Aquino International Airport. He is accused of having conducted a large-scale crackdown on drug criminals under the guise of a “war on drugs” shortly after taking office in 2016, reportedly arresting and executing people without warrants.

According to the Philippine government, more than 200,000 drug crackdown operations have resulted in the deaths of at least 6,200 people since Duterte took office. However, the ICC estimates the number of deaths to be between 12,000 and 30,000, with most victims reportedly executed for minor crimes such as small-scale drug dealings, theft, or petty offenses.
