A Korean student, identified as Jeong, who is attending Columbia University in the United States, is reportedly facing deportation for participating in anti-war protests during the Gaza War that swept across American universities last year, according to the New York Times on the 24th (local time).
According to reports, Jeong, a junior at Columbia University, is being tracked by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) due to his involvement in the anti-war protest activities from last year.
Jeong immigrated to the U.S. with his parents at the age of seven and is residing legally as a green card holder, the newspaper reported.
ICE agents have visited multiple locations to locate Jeong since the 13th and have obtained a warrant to search his university dormitory.
The NYT reported that although Jeong participated in the pro-Palestinian protest urging the cessation of the Gaza War at Columbia University last year, he does not appear to have been one of the leaders of the protest.
