Biden Urges Trump to Rethink Tariff Plans That Could Harm Relations with Mexico and Canada

U.S. President Joe Biden has expressed a negative stance on President-elect Donald Trump’s plan to impose tariffs on Mexico and Canada.

According to a White House pool report, President Biden, during a visit to a fire station in Nantucket, Massachusetts, on the 28th local time, responded to questions about Trump’s tariff plan by saying, “I hope he reconsiders. I think it is unproductive.”

President Biden stated that the U.S. is surrounded by the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans and its two allies, Mexico and Canada, and that it should not start ruining these relationships.

Previously, President-elect Trump announced on the 25th that crime and drugs were pouring into the U.S. through Mexico and Canada and declared that a 25% tariff would be imposed on all products imported from the two countries until they resolve the issue.

President Biden also mentioned that he spoke with three Americans who were released from Chinese incarceration the previous day through a detainee exchange agreement, saying he was “really happy they are home.”

When asked about relations with China, Biden stated, “We have established a hotline between President Xi Jinping and me, as well as a direct military communication line,” and expressed confidence that “President Xi does not want to miscalculate.”
