YouTuber Uzaka “Falls while walking, suffers brain injury → 40% of skull removed” (‘Lecturers’)

[OSEN=Yoo Soo-yeon Reporter] YouTuber Uzaka (Woo Eun-bin) shared her life after an unexpected accident.

On the broadcast of MBC’s ‘Touch the Heart Speakers’ (hereafter referred to as ‘Speakers’) on the 8th, content creator Uzaka (Woo Eun-bin) appeared and gave an inspiring lecture.

Uzaka, who was working as a writer and former flight attendant, said, “The accident happened on January 27, 2024, while I was on my way to give a lecture just like today. I was on my way to meet students when I fell backward and hit my head hard on the pavement, and that’s how I lost all memories of the day.”

Following the accident, she suffered from a fractured skull, cerebral hemorrhage, and brain swelling. Woo Eun-bin stated, “My cerebral hemorrhage damaged 95% of the left brain, and blood spilled under my left ear and frontal lobe, damaging the olfactory and visual nerve cells. Before the surgery, the doctor told my family, ‘There is a 20-30% chance of survival.’ They also mentioned there was a high risk of dying during surgery, and even if I survived, I would likely suffer from difficulties with language, cognition, and hearing, and could not live a normal life as a woman in her 30s,” she revealed, shocking the audience.

She continued, “My family prayed for my survival. When I opened my eyes a week later, I couldn’t recognize my mother or husband in front of me. I could only recognize my father,” and added, “I had to undergo a craniotomy to remove two-fifths of the left side of my skull.”

Regarding her feelings at the time, she shared, “I felt truly despondent and hopeless. How could this happen to me? I could even see my brain moving when I swallowed. It felt like my head was being stabbed with a knife and hammered. I also suffered from speech difficulties, unable to remember words. The doctor told my family, ‘Think of her as a child again,’ and at 34, I essentially became a child again.”

However, thanks to relentless training and her family’s support, Uzaka was able to speak again. She shared an encouraging message, “I hope that even when facing pain or experiencing tough and depressing times, you never give up. Look at me. I’m here speaking in front of you all. So, don’t be ashamed or hide. I will keep showing you my progress as I move forward,” she encouraged.
