“Yoon’s approval rating 27%… People Power Party 32% · Democratic Party 31%” [Gallup]

A public opinion survey revealed that President Yoon Suk-yeol’s approval rating slightly dropped to the high 20s percent. According to a survey conducted by Gallup Korea from the 20th to 23rd of this month among 1,000 adults aged 18 and older nationwide, President Yoon’s positive job performance rating was 27%, while the negative rating was 63%. The positive rating decreased by 1 percentage point compared to the previous survey in the fourth week of July, while the negative rating remained the same.

The reasons for the positive job performance evaluation of President Yoon were mainly related to ‘diplomacy,’ followed by a slight increase in ‘defense and security’ and ‘principle or conviction.’

On the other hand, the reasons for the negative evaluation included ‘economy and people’s livelihoods’ and ‘diplomacy,’ with a significant increase in responses mentioning ‘Japan relations’ compared to three weeks ago.

The approval rating for political parties showed that the People Power Party dropped 3 percentage points from the previous survey to 32%, while the Democratic Party of Korea increased by 4 percentage points to 31%. The Justice Party had an 8% approval rating, while the Reformed Party had 2%.

Regarding the economic outlook for South Korea in the next year, 54% of respondents predicted it would worsen, with only 17% expecting improvement and 25% anticipating it to remain the same.
