[The Herald Economy=Reporter Jin Kim] On the 20th, Yoon Sang-hyun, a lawmaker from the People Power Party, criticized the Democratic Party of Korea for “using a national misfortune as an opportunity for party interests and dividing the people, which is truly shameless.”

Lawmaker Yoon, who had boarded a flight to the United States to attend President Donald Trump’s inauguration, stated on his Facebook page that morning, “While I was on the plane, the Democratic Party framed me as the ‘catalyst for the court attack and riot’ and the ‘one who ordered the attack.'”

Previously, the Democratic Party had accused Yoon of inciting the disturbance at the Seoul Western District Court on the early morning of the 19th when an arrest warrant against President Yoon Suk-yeol was issued. Noh Jong-myun, a Democratic Party member, stated on his Facebook page, “The police arrested 17 people who trespassed, but it seems the far-right protesters have become more audacious, believing a ‘reprimand’ will be issued. The basis for expecting a reprimand was Yoon Sang-hyun.”

In a video shared by Noh, Yoon addressed supporters of President Yoon, saying, “Seventeen young people jumped over the wall and are in detention, so I spoke with the authorities. I believe they will be released soon. I thank the patriotic citizens once again.”

Regarding this, Yoon stated, “When I visited places where citizens were present at night, I checked to ensure there were no physical clashes or safety concerns,” emphasizing, “I’ve consistently said that clashes between the police, protestors, and state institutions should not happen.”

He further explained, “When I visited the front of the Western District Court around 8 PM on the 18th, families of the 17 students and young people who were arrested for jumping the court’s wall that afternoon asked me to look into the situation, which is what I did. There was no violent incident by the time I left around 10 PM.”

Yoon added, “The dawn incident at the Western District Court on the 19th was ignited not by my words or actions but by the unprecedented situation of the president’s arrest and the angry public sentiment that followed. The Democratic Party knows this.”

He then questioned the Democratic Party, “What do you intend to achieve by distorting the facts and dividing the citizens like this? Is protecting Lee Jae-myung more important than protecting the nation and its people?”

Finally, he stated, “The public is realizing who is behind the far-left judicial cartel, the corrupt election commission cartel, and the pro-North Korean factions as they observe these events,” and concluded, “I will continue to fight to uphold liberal democracy and the rule of law, unmoved by the Democratic Party’s propaganda.”
