Yongin City announced on the 17th that it has requested Gyeonggi Province for the installation of a ramp connecting the ‘Yongin~Gwangju Expressway’, which is being promoted as a private investment project, and the newly planned ‘Yongin City Plan Road Middle 1-1’.
Yongin City Plan Road Middle 1-1 connects National Route 45 and Provincial Route 57 (planned) from east to west.
This road is part of a plan for infrastructure outside the international logistics 4.0 logistics complex being developed in Gorim-dong, Cheoin-gu, connecting from the meeting point of Yongin~Gwangju Expressway and Provincial Route 57 through Bopyeong 2 in Yulim-dong, Cheoin-gu, to National Route 45, allowing entry to the Yeongdong Expressway Yongin IC.
The city has been emphasizing the need for a ramp to connect Yongin~Gwangju Expressway and Yongin City Plan Road Middle 1-1. A city official mentioned that positive feedback was received from the province after city officials discussed the ramp installation with provincial officials on February 10th.
The city anticipates that installing the connecting ramp towards Yongin IC on Yongin~Gwangju Expressway would facilitate the connection of Yongin City Plan Road Middle 1-1 and Provincial Route 57 Yongin~Pogok section, improving accessibility to Anseong, Pyeongtaek, Gwangju, Seongnam, and the national industrial complex currently being developed in I-dong and Namsa-eup, Cheoin-gu, for the Yongin Advanced System Semiconductor Cluster.
The Yongin~Gwangju Expressway is a private road construction project connecting Taeje Peak in Sinheung-dong, Gwangju City, and Gorim-dong, Cheoin-gu, Yongin City, totaling 17.3 kilometers. It is scheduled to open in 2032, having passed the eligibility examination by the Korea Development Institute and completed the strategic environmental impact assessment. This road will be connected to Provincial Route 57 (Mapyeong Interchange~Gorim-dong) set to open in 2029.
When planning for Provincial Route 57 and Yongin City Plan Road Middle 1-1, the private project for Yongin~Gwangju Expressway had not been confirmed, so plans for the connecting ramp could not be included. After confirming the Yongin~Gwangju Expressway project, the city persistently requested Gyeonggi Province for the installation of the connecting ramp towards Yongin IC.
Yongin Mayor Lee Sang-il stated, “Installing the entry/exit ramp towards Yongin IC on the Yongin~Gwangju Expressway will significantly enhance the convenience and efficiency of ‘Provincial Route 57’ and ‘Yongin City Plan Road Middle 1-1’. The opening of Provincial Route 57 will connect with ‘National Route 43’, ‘National Route 42’, and ‘Provincial Route 23’, resulting in an expansion of Yongin’s internal ring road network, which will greatly facilitate local traffic.”
