“The People’s Anger is Sky-high… Consultations on Impeachment Procedure and Timing” “Han Dong-hoon’s Demands are Just Sounding Out… Should Propose Accepting the Special Prosecutor Act”
[Daily An – Reporters Kim Eun-ji and Kim Soo-hyun] As the prosecution decided not to indict Kim Gun-hee on allegations of involvement in stock price manipulation at Deutsche Motors, the Democratic Party has once again concluded to proceed with the impeachment of Prosecutor General Sim Woo-jung.
Cho Seung-lae, the chief spokesperson of the Democratic Party, informed reporters after the Supreme Council meeting at the National Assembly on the morning of the 18th about the decision to push for the impeachment of Prosecutor General Sim Woo-jung, stating that “the procedure and timing will be discussed within the party.”
Spokesperson Cho mentioned, “The public’s anger over the prosecution’s decision on Mrs. Kim is sky-high. Since the public is taking action, the National Assembly and the opposition party should also act,” emphasizing that the leaders shared views on the impeachment of the Prosecutor General mentioned by Supreme Council member Kim Min-seok the previous day.
He added, “Once the national audit concludes around next week, we plan to hold a presentation reporting on the national audit and denouncing the prosecution in early November.”
On the previous day, Kim Min-seok, who heads the ‘Kim Gun-hee Family Corruption and State Manipulation Investigation Headquarters’ within the Democratic Party, held a press conference voicing strong criticism by saying, “Kim Gun-hee’s dog, the prosecution, will be impeached.” He also declared that “we will impeach the co-conspirators involved in covering up Kim Gun-hee’s crimes,” mentioning figures like Prosecutor General Sim Woo-jung and Chief Prosecutor Lee Chang-soo of the Seoul Central Prosecutor’s Office.
Moreover, spokesperson Cho criticized Han Dong-hoon, the leader of the People’s Power Party, for his three demands to President Yoon Suk-yeol, which included personnel reform at the presidential office related to Mrs. Kim, stopping her public activities, and cooperation in uncovering the truth behind the allegations. Cho stated, “Wouldn’t this just be beating around the bush?”
He then presented the ‘three solutions of the Democratic Party.’ These solutions involved urging a public statement from President Yoon and Kim Gun-hee regarding the ‘Myung Tae-kyun Gate,’ Han Dong-hoon suggesting the acceptance of the ‘Kim Gun-hee Special Prosecutor Act’ to President Yoon, and the People’s Power actively cooperating in the investigation represented by the ‘Kim Gun-hee Special Prosecutor Act.’
The Democratic Party reintroduced the Kim Gun-hee Special Prosecutor Act the day before. The revised act now includes additional allegations related to Myung Tae-kyun, considered a key figure in the candidate recommendation interference case involving Mrs. Kim. It retains previous investigation targets like stock manipulation allegations, bribery-related sponsorships for the Cobana Content exhibitions, luxury bag acceptance allegations, intervention in state affairs and personnel appointments, and influence peddling for former Marine Corps 1st Division Commander Lim Seong-geun.
