Yeongpung Seokpo Smelter Conducts ‘Safety Inspection Day in August’ for All Employees and Partner Company Staff

On August 7th, Yeongpoong Seokpo Smelter in Bonghwa County, Gyeongbuk carried out the ‘August Safety Inspection Day’ event at the main gates of its 1st and 2nd plants. Approximately 20 people attended, including the smelter’s executives, employees, and partner company representatives. The event aimed to promote a culture of safety among the employees and partner company workers.

The event focused on encouraging improvements in workplace safety and health, aiming to establish a strong safety culture. The campaign emphasized the importance of wearing protective gear and adhering to safety regulations before starting work, especially for those visiting the plant for work or shift changes.

Furthermore, the event provided on-site workers with ‘Heat-related Illness Prevention Guides’ and neck coolers to encourage health management. Workers were reminded to exercise caution, and checks were conducted for unexpected alcohol levels during work, as well as the use of helmets and safety equipment when using motorcycles, bicycles, and scooters.

Yeongpoong Seokpo Smelter regularly operates a ‘Safety and Health Innovation Committee’ involving the smelter manager and executives from production, support, and management divisions. This committee, alongside the ‘Industrial Safety and Health Council’ encompassing partner and contractor firms, systematically manages integrated safety and health risks. Additionally, every Tuesday, they conduct routine site inspections covering all production departments to ensure adherence to work standards and safety regulations through self-inspection safety events.

To help workers escape the heat, the company has been holding an ‘Ice Cream Day’ event, distributing ice water and ice cream at the main gates of the 1st and 2nd plants from July 15 to August 15, receiving positive responses.

A spokesperson for the Seokpo Smelter stated, “We are making meticulous efforts to ensure that our employees can work safely even in the heatwave,” and added, “We will continue to do our best to create a safe work environment for all members, including partner companies.”
