Won Hee-ryong: “We cannot be swayed by residents and medical students… The government must act according to principles.”

“Most doctors are dedicated to their patients.”

Former Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Won Hee-ryong held a press conference at the National Assembly Communication Hall in Seoul last month, criticizing the Constitutional Court for unfairness and bias regarding the impeachment trial of President Yoon Suk-yeol.

On the 19th, former Minister Won stated, “We cannot continue to be led by the strong resistance from medical residents and medical students against medical reforms,” urging the government to respond.

He posted on his Facebook, “It’s time to conclude the medical turmoil. In difficult times, sticking to principles is the right approach because that ultimately resolves issues.”

He noted, “There is a distortion in the current medical system where essential medical care is neglected. To those rejecting the decision-making process that ensures the participation of the majority in the medical field, it’s time to clearly tell them that if they truly don’t want to practice medicine, they shouldn’t.”

He continued, “Most doctors are silently caring for their patients with dedication. The government and society should focus on them, and we must collaborate with those who remain to figure out how to change and improve the situation.”

He further claimed, “For those who hold patients’ lives hostage with agitation and threats, we should offer them the freedom not to become doctors and give them the chance to live a new life. The vacancies they leave can be filled by new people willing to fulfill the roles properly and by individuals from other medical professions.”
