Trump’s ‘Gaza Peace Initiative’… Hamas “Haven’t received the document yet” Caution

On the 29th (local time), US President Donald Trump (right) is seen shaking hands with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at a press conference held in the state banquet hall of the White House in Washington, DC. The two leaders agreed to implement President Trump’s “Gaza Strip Peace Initiative.” Hamas, the Palestinian militant group, showed caution regarding President Trump’s announcement of the “Gaza Strip Peace Initiative,” stating that they had “not yet received the document,” according to Al-Jazeera Mubashir TV in an interview following the joint press conference by Trump and Netanyahu. The official stance of the Hamas leadership has not yet been confirmed.

Earlier, President Trump announced the Gaza peace initiative, composed of a total of 20 items, indicating that Arab and Muslim countries are negotiating with Hamas and expressing hope for a positive response from them. According to the proposed peace initiative, if the warring parties Israel and Hamas reach an agreement, Hamas would release Israeli hostages, while Israel would release Palestinian detainees within 72 hours, initiating the end-of-war procedures. The initiative also includes provisions for Hamas to disarm and establish a civilian government.

Netanyahu expressed support for “your plan to end the war in the Gaza Strip” during the joint press conference, confirming the agreement with President Trump.

Meanwhile, the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ), a militant group linked to Hamas, opposed President Trump’s peace initiative. In a statement under the name of leader Ziyad al-Nakhalah, PIJ strongly condemned the announcements by the US and Israel as a “prescription to explode the region.”
