President Donald Trump announced on the 20th, local time, that he plans to visit China early next year. According to reports from AP and others, President Trump mentioned to reporters at the White House that he had received an invitation from China and plans to visit the country early in 2026, noting that the plans are almost finalized.
Before this, President Trump and President Xi are scheduled to meet during the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit, which begins on the 30th in Gyeongju, South Korea.
As the top priority for the summit, President Trump highlighted reaching a ‘fair’ trade agreement between the U.S. and China.
He also stated that China would join the negotiation table regarding the critical minerals sector.
He emphasized, “I want to do well by China. I maintain a very good relationship with President Xi.”
When asked about Taiwan, President Trump avoided specific answers but noted that “China does not want such a situation (military conflict)” and asserted, “The U.S. possesses the strongest military power, and no one can challenge that.”
