The National Assembly’s Legislative and Judiciary Committee will hold a full meeting tomorrow (11th) in the afternoon.
Although the agenda of the meeting is undecided, it is expected that there will be disputes between the ruling and opposition parties regarding the prosecution’s decision not to appeal the Daejang-dong case.
Chairperson Choo Mi-ae of the Legislative and Judiciary Committee announced today through a notification to the committee members, “If the People’s Power rejects consultations through the secretary member, I will proceed with the meeting as scheduled at 4:30 PM tomorrow.”
There is a high possibility that institution witnesses, such as Justice Minister Jeong Seong-ho, will not attend this meeting.
This is according to Article 5 of the National Assembly’s Testimony and Appraisal Act, which stipulates that applications for witnesses and references must be made seven days before a meeting.
A National Assembly official stated, “According to the National Assembly’s Testimony and Appraisal Act, it is expected that witnesses will not attend tomorrow’s meeting, and the meeting is unlikely to proceed smoothly.”
According to the Office of the Chairperson of the Legislative and Judiciary Committee, the People’s Power requested to hold an “urgent inquiry on pending issues related to not appealing the Daejang-dong case” at 10:30 AM today through the committee’s administrative office.
In response, the Chairperson’s office conveyed, “Today is a 1-night, 2-day workshop for the Democratic Party’s local district chairpersons, so we proposed holding the meeting at 4:30 PM tomorrow,” and added, “However, the People’s Power has notified that they will not engage in consultations (related to the meeting) if the witness requested for the 11th does not attend.”
