U.S. President Donald Trump will decide on tariff policies for all countries, including Mexico and Canada, after the government investigation results are released on April 1, according to Kevin Hassett, Chairman of the White House National Economic Council (NEC), who stated this today (27th) local time.

In a CNBC interview, Hassett mentioned that President Trump has extended the deferment of imposing tariffs, saying, “We will probably address Mexico and Canada at the same time as everything else.”

Hassett explained that “the investigation results will be out on April 1, and following that, the president will determine the tariff policy for all countries.”

Previously, on his inauguration day, President Trump signed a memorandum on the “America First Trade Policy,” instructing the administration to review the causes of the U.S. trade deficit, measures like tariffs to correct it, and existing trade agreements, to be submitted by April 1.

Initially, a 25% tariff was to be imposed on Mexico and Canada from the 4th due to insufficient cooperation in curbing illegal immigration and drugs. However, the tariff imposition was deferred until March 4 as negotiations with the two countries continued.

Hassett’s explanation suggests that the decision on the 25% tariffs on Mexico and Canada will be made after April 1, at the same time as other countries.
