The seventh National Intellectual Property Council is launched, grinding down intellectual property based on AI era.

Jaekwanghyeong appointed as NIPA Chairman,

“In the era of technological sovereignty, the 7th National Intellectual Property Committee, dedicated to exploring new policies for protecting and activating intellectual property in the AI and other technology sectors, will be launched on the 1st of next month.”

“Prime Minister Han Deok-soo will serve as the government-side chairman, with Jaekwanghyeong, the president of KAIST, appointed as the civilian-side chairman. Jong-ho Lee, Minister of Science and ICT, will serve as the executive secretary. The committee consists of a total of 34 members, including 13 government officials from various ministries and agencies and 19 civilian experts with knowledge and experience in intellectual property matters.”

“The committee’s role will include deliberating and coordinating major government policies and plans to promote the creation, protection, and utilization of various intellectual properties in the fields of science and technology, patents, copyrights in culture, arts, and content.”

“The Ministry of Science and ICT explained that the 7th civilian committee was organized by expertise in intellectual property rights, copyrights, new intellectual property rights, and IP policies, with a focus on strengthening the country’s global intellectual property capabilities.”

“In the future, the 7th committee will be responsible for enhancing interagency policy cooperation on intellectual property issues, coordinating policy differences between ministries, leading policies that are difficult for individual ministries to carry out, activating the IP global business ecosystem, resolving various international IP issues through international cooperation, and participating actively in forming international norms in the IP field.”

“Specifically, measures will include promoting inter-ministerial cooperation for technology leakage prevention, developing standards for calculating damages for trade secret and technology leakage, devising protection strategies and institutional improvements considering the harmonization of copyrights and industrial property rights, enhancing expertise in intellectual property rights litigation, devising strategies for the transfer of rights and business outlets for video content expanding in the global market, and addressing intellectual property issues requiring international cooperation such as AI inventions, learning data, generated content, transparency, and AI cover songs, among others.”

“Jaekwanghyeong, the civilian chairman, expressed his commitment to enhance continuous on-site communication to make the importance of intellectual property felt and utilized by every individual in the global technology sovereignty era, and vowed to focus on securing a leading position in IP international relations.”
