The Presidential Office announced today (9th) that they held a personnel committee meeting and placed all five heads of the Presidential Security Service on standby duty, who were involved in the December 3 martial law incident last year.
Kang Yoo-jung, the spokesperson for the Presidential Office, stated in a briefing that “this is a measure for personnel renewal and organizational stabilization following the establishment of the new administration and is part of President Lee Jae-myung’s emphasis on open and low-profile security.”
Spokesperson Kang explained the reason for the dismissals, saying, “During the December 3 rebellion, the Security Service obstructed the execution of arrest warrants and search and seizure operations that were legitimately issued by the court, causing social chaos and conflict.”
She further criticized, “The leadership of the Security Service refused lawful orders and conducted personnel retaliation against officers who cooperated with the execution of the arrest warrants, effectively reducing a national institution meant to serve all citizens to acting as private soldiers for former President Yoon Seok-yeol, which angered many citizens.”
Accordingly, the Presidential Security Service will operate under an acting system for the time being until additional personnel measures are announced.
