The President will not attend the NATO summit, considering “domestic issues and the situation in the Middle East.”

President Lee Jae-myung has decided not to attend the NATO Summit held in The Hague, Netherlands, on the 24th local time.

In a written briefing today (22nd), Wi Sung-lac, the Director of National Security, stated that “the government had actively considered the President’s attendance at the NATO Summit despite various domestic affairs,” but ultimately decided against it.

The decision for President Lee not to attend was explained as being based on a “comprehensive consideration of domestic issues and the situation in the Middle East.”

Wi Sung-lac added that the matter of another government official attending in place of the President would be discussed with the NATO side.
