The Personal Information Commission to Launch ‘Personal Information Peace of Mind Culture Expansion’ Campaign on the Occasion of ‘Personal Information Day’ on the 30th

The Personal Information Protection Commission announced on the 29th that it would launch a campaign to spread a culture of personal information protection practices in the AI era. Every year, the Commission designates the week that includes September 30th, the Day of Personal Information Protection, as the “Personal Information Protection Week,” with participation from both the public and private sectors to focus on personal information protection activities.

This year’s Personal Information Protection Week, from September 29th to October 3rd, involves a total of 901 organizations and companies, including 758 public organizations and 143 private companies and organizations. Notably, participation from private companies and organizations has more than doubled compared to last year.

Participating organizations will conduct various programs such as on-site campaigns, broadcast advertisements, and quiz events, tailored to their specific characteristics. For instance, the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism will hold a contest for personal information protection content using generative AI and distribute promotional materials titled “Easily Understandable Personal Information Protection Regulations.” Additionally, Kakao will conduct offline campaigns and online events such as mock exams to raise awareness about personal information protection on the Day of Personal Information Protection.

Furthermore, the Commission has created a card news called “Essential Personal Information Knowledge by Rockstars,” containing vital information for personal information handlers, data breach victims, and other information subjects, to encourage proactive participation in spreading the culture of personal information protection. An emblem for “Personal Information Protection Week” will also be distributed for participating institutions to use on their main websites.

The Personal Information Protection Commission stated, “Through Personal Information Protection Week, we aim to enhance corporate and institutional responsibility for the importance and safe use of personal information, increase public awareness, and collaborate continuously with the public and private sectors to expand this understanding throughout society.”
