In a recent development, the People Power Party (PPP) requested a delay in the upcoming National Policy Council meeting from Speaker Woo Won-shik. The PPP cited concerns that without a clearly defined agenda, the meeting could devolve into chaotic discussions. On the other hand, the Democratic Party criticized this request, urging the PPP to attend the meeting without causing unnecessary obstructions.
Kim Sang-hoon, the policy chief of the PPP, expressed optimism about reaching a consensus on the Semiconductor Special Act. He suggested that a practical meeting before the National Policy Council, tentatively scheduled for February 10-11, could be beneficial. He argued that proceeding with the council without a mutually agreed agenda could lead to disorganized debates, thus warranting a request for reconsideration to the Speaker’s office.
In response, Jin Sung-joon, the policy chief of the Democratic Party, issued a statement urging the PPP to attend the meeting promptly. He underscored a prior agreement that the National Policy Council would take place with key political figures, including Speaker Woo, Democratic Party leader Lee Jae-myung, and others, participating.
Jin criticized the PPP’s sudden request to postpone the council, describing it as incomprehensible. He also questioned the PPP’s strategy of linking the Semiconductor Special Act with other issues like the supplementary budget and pension reform committee setup, expressing his inability to accept these connections.
