, ‘The issuance of ‘mobile resident registration cards,’ which can be used like physical resident registration cards at administrative and financial institutions, hospitals, etc., will be expanded nationwide.’
, ‘The Ministry of the Interior and Safety announced on the 9th that it would gradually expand the regions where mobile resident registration cards can be issued from the 14th until the 14th of the next month, following last year’s pilot operation.’

, ‘Starting on the 14th in Daegu, Daejeon, Ulsan, Gangwon, Jeonnam and Jeonbuk, Gyeongnam and Gyeongbuk, and Jeju, and from the 28th in Incheon, Gyeonggi, Chungnam and Chungbuk, and on the 14th of the next month in Seoul, Busan, and Gwangju, mobile resident registration card issuance will commence. It can be issued by applying at the resident centers within the basic local government jurisdiction of the resident registration area.’
, ‘The pilot operation began on December 27 last year in Sejong, Hongcheon in Gangwon, Goyang in Gyeonggi, Geochang in Gyeongnam, Seo-gu in Daejeon, Gunwi in Daegu, Ulju in Ulsan, Yeosu and Yeongam in Jeonnam.’
, ‘From the 28th of the next month, mobile resident registration cards can be applied for and issued anywhere in the country, regardless of the resident registration area. By installing the ‘Republic of Korea Mobile ID’ app on a phone under the applicant’s name and visiting a resident center with the resident registration card to scan the QR code for mobile resident registration card issuance, it can be issued immediately for free. If the resident registration card has an embedded IC (integrated circuit) chip, it can be issued by touching it on the applicant’s phone with the IC resident registration card.’
, ‘If a physical resident registration card is reported lost, both the physical and mobile resident registration cards will be deactivated. If the phone is reported lost to the telecom company or the mobile resident registration card is reported lost, only the mobile resident registration card will be deactivated.’
, Acting Minister Ko Ki-dong of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety said, “The mobile resident registration card will significantly enhance national convenience in various online services suitable for the digital age,” adding, “We will closely monitor and improve any inconveniences in the issuance process.”
