The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and Japan’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism hold the ‘Tourism Promotion Council’…”Discussion on Expanding Tourism Exchange”

Held in Shiga Prefecture, Japan, “The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, together with Japan’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, will hold the ’39th Korea-Japan Tourism Promotion Meeting’ in Shiga Prefecture, Japan, from the 15th to the 16th.”,

The Korea-Japan Tourism Promotion Meeting has been held annually in Korea and Japan in turns since 1986, contributing to the enhancement of friendship between the two countries. Last year, it was held in Gangneung, Korea, and this year, more than 80 tourism and aviation industry representatives from relevant ministries of both countries, local governments, Korea Tourism Organization (KTO), Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO), and travel associations will gather in Japan to discuss strategies for expanding tourism exchange.

Especially this year, marking the 60th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic relations between Korea and Japan, the meeting will discuss tasks such as ▲the continuous expansion of tourism exchange, ▲activation of regional tourism, ▲activation of exchanges for future generations, ▲diversification of the tourism industry, and ▲cooperation in attracting long-distance tourists. Following the presentation of both governments’ tourism policy directions, tourism-related organizations from both countries [KTO and JNTO] and travel associations will exchange opinions on ways to expand Korea-Japan tourism exchange.

In addition, they will explore ways to activate regional tourism in both countries. Mokpo City in Jeollanam-do and Shiga Prefecture in Japan will introduce strategies to attract tourists using diverse tourism resources, such as unique sightseeing and culinary experiences. The Expo Organizing Committee for the Yeosu World Islands Expo will promote the ‘2026 Yeosu World Islands Expo’ as a case study of regional tourism activation. Cheongju International Airport, Kansai Tourism Bureau, and Kansai International Airport are also expected to present opinions to enhance tourism exchange between the two countries.

A policy official from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism stated, “We will seek cooperation plans based on common interests of both countries, such as regional tourism activation, to ensure stable exchange in the tourism sector between Korea and Japan in the future.”
