[MyDaily = Reporter Kim Ha-young] Additional messages from the late MBC weathercaster Oh Yo-anna, who passed away due to workplace bullying, have been revealed.
On the 20th, a video titled “Shocking Exclusive! Oh Yo-anna’s KakaoTalk messages obtained… Why was there conflict with senior MBC weathercasters?” was posted on the YouTube channel ‘Entertainment President Lee Jin-ho’.
Lee Jin-ho mentioned the already publicized KakaoTalk conversation between the senior weathercaster A and Oh Yo-anna, noting that “there were no particularly prominent or clear signs of bullying when looking at the overall context.”
However, he stated, “Only a part of the KakaoTalk messages has been made public, and since the amount of exchanged messages is vast, covering all the content is practically difficult,” and mentioned that he obtained the full conversation via the bereaved family.
Lee Jin-ho then disclosed additional KakaoTalk conversations between Oh Yo-anna and another weathercaster B. In it, B accused Oh Yo-anna of making them look bad by crying in front of people, despite Oh not having cried in front of the director.
Oh Yo-anna tried to clarify by explaining there was no such incident, to which B responded angrily, questioning why Oh was speaking that way. Oh then sought advice from A, another senior weathercaster, only to be criticized for supposedly talking back.
A was not interested in factual accuracy, emphasizing that what was important wasn’t whether Oh cried or not, but her responses to senior figures. Despite attempting to clarify the situation, Oh was continually reprimanded, leading her to repeatedly apologize.
Lee Jin-ho pointed out that Oh faced criticism merely for trying to set the record straight, noting that similar situations had occurred in the past. According to her family, such dialogues were a recurring stressor for Oh, who frequently talked with her mother about her struggles. During this time, many call recordings were reportedly preserved.
Oh Yo-anna passed away on September 15 last year, but the tragic news was only revealed on December 10, three months later, sparking shock.
With allegations of workplace bullying emerging, MBC has formed a fact-finding committee to investigate the claims thoroughly.
